Turner Martini

Coach Turner is a “born and raised Sheridanite” as he tells us. He grew up playing sports all year round and continues to play whatever and whenever he can.

Volleyball Experience

• Coach Turner primarily played baseball and tennis in high school. His claim to fame is being a Champion for the Sheridan Troopers. He also competed at the State Tennis Tournament from 2012 - 2014.

• “I love trying new sports - volleyball, hockey, pickleball- you name it! Hockey has taught me the importance of balance… mostly because I’ve fallen more times than I can count.”

• “Pickleball? Give me a shot, and you're in for a swift butt-kicking.”

• In volleyball, he tell us he’s still fine-tuning his ball control and rotations, especially after playing in a recent men’s power level competitive tournament. “The fun is in learning, laughing at myself, and always trying something new!”

Why do I coach?

“I used to want to be a PE teacher, and coaching is my way of continuing to share that passion. I love staying active and helping others do the same, but what I enjoy most is watching people truly have fun through sport.”

What do I look forward to teaching my team?

“I look most forward to teaching how to celebrate their wins, no matter how small, and cheering on team accomplishments.”

Why the philosophy of coaching "person first, athlete second" is important to me:

“My dad plays a big role in why this is important to me. He taught me how to play, how to win, and how to lose - with class. Most importantly, he taught me to play the right way, and those lessons are a big reason why I still enjoy playing sports today.”

Other Tidbits

“If you couldn’t tell, sports are my main passion - I love playing, watching, and even reading about them. I’m also a history buff and can spend hours watching documentaries. Video games are my vice, and I’m a huge Star Wars fan - ask me anything! I also enjoy fishing, watching anime, listening to podcasts, and building LEGO sets; my most recent, the Hogwarts Castle.”
