Katie Balthazor
I moved to sheridan to play college volleyball. I met my husband after I graduated and became a police officer (he is currently a Sergeant with the Wyoming Highway Patrol). We have a son who will turn 9 on Christmas Day. I went back to school a few years ago for radiology and now I work in the cardiac cath lab and interventional radiology department at the hospital. I love what I do and that I still get to help people even if it's in a different role than I did as a police officer. We love going up the mountain to fish and four-wheel, and I also do a lot of gravel bike races and trail runs, and of course... volleyball! I found a passion in coaching this last season helping the Tongue River volleyball team and am excited to participate in club.
Volleyball Experience
• I played three years of varsity in high school and then 2 years in college as a middle blocker. I played basketball as well.
Why do I coach?
I had some seasons ruined by different coaches as well as teammates who were not supportive nor interested in cultivated every player's potential and promoting a strong team environment. I feel so blessed to have the responsibility of being an integral part of these young ladies lives and sports careers.
What do I look forward to teaching my team?
To be strong, determined and having a never quit attitude. That strong minded individuals can make an incredible team unit. To overcome obstacles both physical and mental.
Why the philosophy of coaching "person first, athlete second" is important to me:
As important as it feels at the time, sports are such a small part of the entirety of your life, it is not the end of all means. It is way more important to be a kind, productive member of your family, school, community etc.
Other Tidbits
Fishing, biking, running, lifting, volleyball, reading, puzzles, baking and just anything with my family and dogs.
